5 Must-Haves: Dog Nutrition Edition

Updated: Jul 28

You know I am ALL about the best of the best when it comes to dog nutrition...

So, I decided to compile a list of the top 5 things that I think are a necessity for dog parents.

Obviously having a good quality base dog food would be #1... But, these are things I truly believe every pet parent should own.

  1. Brutus Bone Broth

Bone broth is one of the most nutrient-dense foods for your pup. Use it to hydrate kibble, within frozen treat recipes, or as a booster to their water.

Benefits: Hip & Joints, Skin & Coat, Digestion, Hydration and more.

2. REAL Fresh Meat

I can't stress enough how important it is to add real fresh meat in your dog's bowl.

Unfortunately, commercial dog food is typically processed with high heats, removing most if not all of the real protein and nutrients. Dogs are carnivores. They need real fresh protein!

A simple way to do this is to add some plain cooked meat on top of their meals. Next time you're making some ground chicken, save some unseasoned on the side for your dog.

To make things easy, we like to use brand Maev to add in some real fresh nutrients. Maev is one of the only human-grade balanced raw dog foods (yesss) and I just pour it on top of Lido's meal and serve :)

This is the fastest way to add in high quality real fresh meat to your pup's meal.

If you're interested in testing it out for yourself, you can save 15% by using my code CARINA15.

3. Frozen Berries

Most people know that berries are excellent for humans. Well, they are also superfoods for our doggos!

A more affordable way to provide these for our pups is to buy frozen. This also prevents them from going bad or getting moldy before even using them. I hate when that happens...

If you are worried your dog won't eat them while frozen, you can blend them into frozen treats or simply thaw them out before adding them on top of their meal.

Berries Lido love's: Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries.

4. Bone Marrow Bones

The reason I love these is for the purpose of reusing them. You can fill it up and freeze it to create a healthy and engaging snack for your pup.

There are kong-filling recipes all over the internet, but why purchase a kong when you have an old bone marrow bone?!

5. Dehydrated Backup Food

This one may seem strange, but it's important.

What if there was a shortage of your dog's usual food? What if there was a shortage of most dog foods? Now, I am not really a proponent of feeding into negative agendas, however; I do believe in being prepared.

That's why I have a large bag of extra dehydrated food just in case. I prefer this over kibble because it's healthier. You can even purchase some extra canned food as well.

It's always better to be prepared :)

Additional things we recommend...

  • Kefir or raw goats milk

  • Frozen veggies

  • Pumpkin puree

  • Eggs

  • Healthy, limited ingredient treats
